PAAIA and Library of Congress to Celebrate Persian Language and Literature October 1, 2013, Washington, D.C. – The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) today announced that it will be sponsoring an exhibition showcasing the Persian language and Persian literature at the U.S. Library of Congress. This first-ever exhibition of its kind, “One Thousand Years of the Persian Book,” will open in March 2014. The exhibition will provide a glimpse into the library’s unique Persian collection and the important role the Persian language has played in world history. Persian literature has a long tradition and a unique place in history. It is one of the world’s oldest and best-known literatures – Persian having come into prominence as a literary language and a cultural lingua franca over a thousand years ago. PAAIA Announces 2013-2014 Mentorship Class September 30, 2013, Washington, D.C. – The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) is pleased to announce the 2013-2014 Mentorship Class, after our most competitive application cycle yet. PAAIA’s Mentorship Program represents one of PAAIA’s core tenets – to help a new generation shine by tapping into the talent, industriousness, and generosity of our community and professional leaders. Many young adults, taking their first steps into the professional world, do not have access to the experience and counsel that is necessary to make career decisions that will let them achieve their fullest potential. In recognition of this, PAAIA launched the Mentorship Program in the spring of 2010. The program matches and connects young mentees with experienced mentors for a dialogue which shows them the path to fulfilling their destinies. Click here to read more. PAAIA Seeks Clarification Regarding Visa Issuing Procedure of Indian Government for Iranian Americans September 27, 2013, Washington, D.C. – The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) sent a letter last Monday to Nirupama Rao, India’s ambassador to the United States, requesting clarification regarding the Indian government’s procedures for issuing visas to U.S. passport holders who were born in Iran. The letter is in response to information received concerning delays in visa applications experienced by some Iranian Americans seeking to travel to India. During the past several weeks, PAAIA has been contacted by a number of Iranian American professionals from the San Francisco Bay Area. These people work in the high-tech industry and are required to travel to India for business-related purposes. They have been informed by the Consulate General of India in San Francisco that there are new procedures for Iranian-born citizens of the United States, and that their applications may take as long as seven to nine months to process. Bipartisan Coalition of Members of Congress Joins “Free Amir Hekmati” Campaign September 25, 2013, Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dan Kildee (D-MI) has launched a “Free Amir” photo campaign in Congress to raise awareness of, and call for the release of, Amir Hekmati, an Iranian American who has been detained in Iran since August 2011. Thus far, sixty-four members of Congress have taken photos with “Free Amir” signs and posted them on their individual social media sites to help raise awareness of the former Marine and Flint, Michigan native.
