PAAIA & Coalition of Iranian American Organizations Welcome UN Human Rights Council Decision to Investigate Human Rights Abuses in Iran
Washington, DC – The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) and a coalition of Iranian American organizations welcome a decision by the United Nations Human Rights Council to establish a fact-finding mission which will investigate the ongoing human rights violations taking place in Iran.
The decision comes after the Iranian American community and allies rallied together to call on the United Nations to take action in support of the brave women and men of Iran who are standing up in protest for their rights and freedom. PAAIA brought together a coalition including PARS Equality Center, Iranian American Bar Association, and the Center for Human Rights in Iran to urge the United Nations to investigate human rights abuses and remove Iran from the Commission on the Status of Women.
The situation in Iran calls for a vigorous independent investigative and accountability mechanism that would collect and preserve evidence of crimes under international law and hold those who commit human rights violations accountable. We will be following the work of the fact-finding mission closely.
