IA Vote will utilize digital, online and text messaging to mobilize Iranian Americans from all ages, backgrounds and political affiliations to register and vote in the general election this November. While there are an estimated 2 million Iranian Americans in the United States who contribute to all aspects of U.S. society and hold inherently democratic values, our community has lagged behind others when it comes to engaging in American civic life. Voter turnout data show that Iranian Americans have extremely low turnout rates, resulting in significant under-representation of the community at the local, state and federal levels. This under-representation has led to dire consequences for the community from the Travel Ban to border detentions to devastating sanctions imposed on loved ones in Iran. If recent history tells us anything, it is that our community cannot afford to continue on its current path of disengagement.
IA Vote is the latest effort of PAAIA’s Civic Engagement Initiative, which is committed to encouraging and enabling Iranian Americans to get involved in their communities, both nationally and locally. PAAIA thanks our partners for joining us to encourage the Iranian American community to go out and vote.
