PAAIA Hosts Briefing in Honor of the One Year Anniversary of Woman, Life, Freedom
Last year, the arrest and subsequent death in state custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini lit a spark as women and girls took to the streets to stand up for their fundamental rights. Men and boys soon joined in these massive demonstrations and they quickly spread across the globe as the Iranian diaspora rose to the occasion to show their support for the unprecedented movement.
On September 19th, a full year after the death of Mahsa Amini, PAAIA held a congressional briefing to discuss how the Woman, Life, Freedom protests have evolved and what the future holds for the people of Iran. This comes after the virtual briefing we held in June discussing the ongoing situation in Iran. Now you can watch the full briefing from the comfort of your own home:
Along with sharing the developments of the protest movement, our three esteemed panelists also deliberated about the state of political prisoners arrested for their role in the protests, the recent U.S.-Iran hostage deal, how to address Iran’s nuclear capabilities, and Iran’s recently rekindled relationship with Saudi Arabia.
