PAAIA Hosts
Outreach Events with the U.S. Department of State

-The
Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA), in collaboration
with the U.S. Department of the State, hosted two informative panel
discussions on changes to visa validity for Iranian students.  The
purpose of the outreach events, co-sponsored with other Iranian
American organizations, is to educate Iranian Americans and Iranian
students about the changes to the student visa policy. The events were
held at Stanford University on June 22nd and George Washington
University on June 23rd.

PAAIA’s
New York City Chapter Hosts Reception in Support of Judge Sabrina
Setareh Kraus

“Every vote counts,” was the hit-home message of Judge Sabrina Setareh
Kraus last Wednesday evening, where PAAIA members gathered friends,
colleagues and supporters to raise funds for the Iranian American
Judge’s election campaign for New York City Civil Court.  Judge
Kraus is running in the 3rd Judicial
District of Manhattan
, which encompasses 14th Street to 65th Street and 7th Avenue to the Hudson River.

Stressing the significance of the upcoming Democratic primary on
September 13, 2011, Judge Kraus urged New York City registered
Democrats to come out and vote.  The critical importance of this
primary is that as a Democratic stronghold, New York City Democratic
primary elections tend to project the winner of the election at large.

Asian Law
Caucus Releases a Know-Your-Rights Publication on Iran Sanctions

The Asian Law Caucus (ALC) and many other national Iranian American
membership organizations increasingly receive inquiries from concerned
community members about the Iran Sanctions.Issues of concern include if
and how Iranian Americans in the US can sell their property in Iran,
transfer their savings or retirement funds to the US, or support their
parents or other family members in Iran. Others want to provide for
orphans, donate money to Iranian charities in the memory of a late
loved one, or engage in other charitable deeds.
