February 10, 2010, Irvine, CA – Nearly fifty guests were in attendance at a private reception on February 2, 2010 in support of Shiva Farivar’s candidacy for Irvine City Council.  The event, which was held at the Caspian Restaurant, provided an opportunity for guests to meet with Farivar and learn about her bid to become the first Iranian American elected to public office in the City of Irvine.
 
The evening began with a brief introduction and welcoming remarks by two-time mayor and current City of Irvine Councilmember Beth Krom, who praised Farivar’s commitment to serving the best interests of all Irvine citizens.
 
Farivar has been a resident of Irvine for the past 15 years.  She entered public service in 2005 when she became the executive assistant to the Mayor of Irvine, serving mainly as the community liaison to educational institutions. In 2007, she was appointed to serve on the Irvine Community Services Commission. Farivar currently serves as the Chair of the commission.
 
In her speech, Farivar touched upon her experiences and accomplishments. Through her work with the City of Irvine, Farivar has gained valuable insight into local government and what it takes to build, support, and sustain community resources in a diverse and growing city. Her decision to run for City Council reflects her interest in ensuring a bright future for the City of Irvine.
 
In addition, Farivar went on to explain how much Iranian American support means to her campaign.  She thanked IAPAC, the connected political action committee (PAC) of PAAIA, for its support and role in encouraging Iranian Americans to support her campaign.
 
Other dignitaries at the event, among them Irvine Mayor Sukhee Kang, Councilmember Larry Agran, and Community Services Commissioner Mariam Khosravani, also took the podium and expressed their enthusiasm and full support for Farivar’s candidacy.
 
The reception, which marked one of Farivar’s most successful fundraising events to date, was hosted by Fardad Fateri, Mariam Khosravani, Jason Jazayeri, Jay Hedjazi, and Lili Laghai.
