IAPAC Suspends Political Contributions in Light of Assault on Capitol

Washington, DC – The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA), a bipartisan organization that represents the Iranian American community, on behalf of its affiliated PAC, the Iranian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC), issued the following statement in response to the events that took place at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th:
“PAAIA condemns, in the strongest terms possible, any and all attempts to undermine our nation’s democratic process and the will of the American people. We feel strongly that the votes taken to overturn the state-certified Electoral College vote were contrary to the fundamental principles of peaceful transition of power enshrined in our Constitution.
In light of the January 6th assault on the U.S. Capitol and the democracy of our nation, PAAIA’s connected PAC, IAPAC, is hereby suspending its political contributions. This pause will allow our organization to thoughtfully review the criteria for making political contributions to ensure that those receiving IAPAC’s support exemplify integrity, civility, and a commitment to the fundamental beliefs of our country. This decision comes after thorough deliberation by IAPAC’s board of directors in consultation with the broader membership of PAAIA.
PAAIA joins our nation in mourning the loss of life that resulted from the January 6 attack on the Capitol and we wish to convey our deepest condolences to all the families affected. The angst and anguish facing our country and community right now is yet another tragic reminder of how divided we have become. But we trust that in the fullness of time, our nation will heal. We hope next week’s inauguration of President-elect Biden will be peaceful and mark the transition to a period of commitment to respect, cooperation, and unity as a nation.”
