March 23, 2011, Washington, D.C.– Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, has sent a holiday greeting to Iranian Americans celebrating Nowruz, the Persian New Year festival.
In a statement released by the Democratic Leader’s office on March 18th, Pelosi praised Iranian Americans for their contributions to the social and economic fabric of American society, and extended her best wishes for a joyous celebration. “Iranian Americans have achieved so much – succeeding in business, politics and academia; making extraordinary strides in law and medicine; leaving an indelible mark on our culture and our heritage,” said Pelosi. “It is a tribute to our nation’s deep-seated belief in diversity and pluralism that so many Iranian families came to the United States seeking a life free from persecution; in reaching our shores, they strengthened our country.”
