CHIP Fellow Yasamin Khosh Reflects on Internship with Rep. Maxwell Frost
Yasamin Khosh is a rising junior at Florida State University, pursuing a dual degree in Political Science and Media Communications. This summer, she interned with Congressman Maxwell Frost on Capitol Hill.
This summer, I had the valuable opportunity to intern for Congressman Maxwell Frost’s Washington D.C. office. I am incredibly grateful to PAAIA for their endless support and guidance as I went through my internship and my time in Washington D.C. As a student from Florida State University, I am often the only Iranian American woman in more spaces than one, and Capitol Hill is no exception.
As a Political Science and Media Communications Student, I was eager to be a CHIP fellow to not only better understand the role of government in our everyday lives, but also to open up doors for future Iranian American leaders to come. It was such a valuable experience to be able to work for a member of Congress who is steadfast in expanding representation for Gen-Z and creating a better world for not only Floridians, but everyone in America.
As someone who is extremely passionate about immigration, higher education policy, and affordable housing, it was a special experience to work in an office that was as passionate (if not more) about these topics as well. I was able to go to congressional briefings, hearings, and meetings to learn more on the topics I am passionate about. I was also able to continue to develop my passions for communication and the press, by learning from and doing tasks for our communications director.
Not only was I able to interact with members of Congress, members of the press, and our amazing staff, but I was also able to connect with Iranian Americans from around the country. I am ecstatic to be able to take what I have learned as a CHIP fellow back to my university, and continue expanding representation for Iranian Americans everywhere.
