CHIP Fellow Lindsey Mazarei Reflects on Internship with Rep. Adam Schiff
A rising sophomore at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), Lindsey Mazarei is majoring in Political Science with a concentration in American Politics. This summer, she interned with Congressman Adam Schiff’s district office.
This summer, I had the privilege of interning in the highly esteemed district office of my local representative, Congressman Adam Schiff. Under the guidance and support of PAAIA as a summer 2024 CHIP Fellow, I solidified my passion for law and government while navigating my role as a young Iranian American.
Serving as a legislative intern in an office with an incredibly devoted staff granted me a unique experience to view the many components of legislation and public service. From processing constituent requests to conducting legislative research, I witnessed the true diversity of daily tasks reserved for a Congressional district office. Every task from sorting voicemails to delegating casework left me with a renewed sense of purpose in our nation’s government.
Attending various field events was a significant highlight of my internship, providing insight beyond the legislative side of our government. I had the opportunity to witness the impact the Congressman’s work has on minority communities, foster lasting connections, and enhance my professional skills.
At UC Santa Barbara, I am majoring in political science with a concentration in American politics and international relations. At a time of unpredictably, both in the unprecedented nature of the Presidential race combined with the issues facing our nation from abroad, it has been fascinating to view it from the perspective of elected officials.
My first internship in Congress has been a profoundly rewarding experience! I am extremely grateful to PAAIA for guiding me through this opportunity to explore my passions. I have had the incredible honor of meeting so many talented and like-minded individuals which has expanded my knowledge on public service. I’m eager to utilize all that I have gained with the district office of Congressman Schiff in my future professional endeavors.
