PAAIA’s New York Chapter Sponsors Panel Presentation on Iran Sanctions

September 14, 2011, New York, NY – On July 19th, 2011, the New York Chapter of the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA), in collaboration with the Iranian American Bar Association (IABA) , hosted an informative panel discussion entitled “Iran Sanctions: Legal Implications for Iranian Americans.” The event was held at Offices of Baker & Hostetler LLP.
A panel of sanctions experts convened in midtown Manhattan for the event. Babak Hoghooghi of BHFA Law Group (a former executive director and a founding board member of PAAIA) and Eric Ferrari of Ferrari Legal gave extremely informative presentations that outlined the regulations — and risks — Iranian Americans must navigate when engaging in any sort of transaction with those in Iran.
Following the presentations, a stirring Q&A provided audience members (who ranged from legal professionals to concerned citizens) with information meant to help them decide whether or not they needed further legal consultation. Both speakers highly recommended that anyone wishing to liquidate assets or bring any nature of goods from Iran into the States seek legal counseling before acting in a manner that could leave them in violation of the sanctions.
