July 27, 2011, Washington, D.C. – A volunteer group of experienced reconstructive surgeons, Mission: Restore will be traveling to Iran on a mission to perform reconstructive plastic surgery on children in the city of Bam. The mission is led by Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh , who was featured in a moving 60 Minutes piece dated July, 3rd 2011, featuring how reconstructive surgery transformed the life of an Iraqi child victimized by the country’s civil strife. The mission commences October 28th, 2011 and ends on November 8th, 2011. The 2003 earthquake was a major earthquake that struck Bam and the surrounding Kerman province of southeastern Iran on Friday, December 26, 2003 leaving total devastation in its wake.
