Give Voice and
Vote – Iranian American Author Nominated for One Book, One San Diego
Selection

– Iranian American Zohreh Ghahremani’s  Sky of Red
Poppies
is one of three books currently nominated for One
Book, One San Diego.  One Book, One San Diego, a partnership
between KPBS and the San Diego Public Library, will soon choose between
three books that will contend for the public vote to be chosen as the
next One Book, One San Diego selection. The winning book will be read
by San Diegans throughout the next year.

Sky of
Red Poppies
,  which illustrates the late 1960’s time period
that
led to 1979 revolution in Iran, is an important novel for all Iranian
Americans to read.   The story uses poetic prose to
illustrate life in Iran during the late 1960’s and the story feels
real. The novel emphasizes themes of culture, politics and the
redeeming power of friendships.

Of Italians
and Iranians: A Conversation With Professor Mahnaz Yousefzadeh

ahead, ask her. As an Iranian-American writing on Italian history,
Mahnaz Yousefzadeh has been asked so many times, she has a smart answer
ready: Why didn’t she spend her scholarly life unpacking the
intricacies of Iranian (or at least Middle Eastern) history?

“I think it’s important—intellectually—to move
out of one’s culture, towards another and then possibly, to return,”
Yousefzadeh says. “One’s understanding could become more nuanced, and
yes, even more authentic.” On a more personal level, she says, she has
always been drawn into the discovery of the unfamiliar, the
not-so-obvious, and the hidden.

PAAIA’s New
York Chapter Sponsors Panel Presentation on Iran Sanctions

July 7, 2011, New York, NY- On
July 19th, 2011, the New York Chapter of the Public Affairs Alliance of
Iranian Americans (PAAIA), in collaboration with the Iranian American
Bar Association (IABA) , will host an informative panel discussion
entitled  “Iran Sanctions: Legal Implications for Iranian
Americans.”  The event will be held at Offices of Baker &
Hostetler LLP (45 Rockefeller Plaza, 11th Floor) from 6:30 – 8:30
PM. 

The
event aims to enlighten the Iranian American community on the practical
ramifications of trade law regulations between the U.S. and Iran. 
A distinguished panel of legal experts will cover topics ranging from
the transfer of personal assets to making charitable donations and
purchasing Iranian art.

of success with the audience, hoping to inspire and empower the next
