PAAIA Chapters and Friends Take Nowruz to Local Schools Nationwide

May 27, 2011, Washington, D.C. – Building on our successful efforts to pass the Nowruz Resolution through both Chambers of Congress in 2010, in mid-March 2011, PAAIA launched its Nowruz Project. Spearheaded and developed by PAAIA Washington D.C. Chapter Leader, Saghi Agha-Khan, in collaboration with Nahal Iravani-Sani, the project aimed at providing parents of elementary school children with resources and information they could use to present on the joyous celebration of Nowruz at their children’s schools.

PAAIA Houston Chapter Hosts Panel Presentation on Iranian Transaction Regulations

May 31, 2011, Houston, TX – On May 18, 2011 over 130 Iranian Americans attended an informative Seminar titled “Current U.S. Sanctions on Iran & Legal Implications for Iranian Americans” at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. The purpose of this gathering was to provide the audience with information and updates on the new and ever-changing Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) rules and regulations regarding trade with Iran.

May 31, 2011, Los Angeles, CA – It’s unusual for a movie to feature British, Australian, French and American stars, but the drama-romance “Last Night” ably culls the strengths of Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Guillaume Canet and Eva Mendes into an evocative look into the complicated nature of adultery.

But for writer and director Massy Tadjedin, the international cast provides the necessary ingredients for her feature film debut.

Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Galleries Receive Major Gift to Support Persian Art and Culture

PRESS RELEASE

June 2, 2011, Washington, D.C. – The Smithsonian’s Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery have received a major gift to support Persian art and culture and related programs at the museums. The donor, Jahangir Amuzegar, has established two endowments: the Jahangir and Eleanor Amuzegar Persian Cultural Celebrations Fund, which will support an annual celebration in honor of Nowruz, the Persian New Year, and the Jahangir and Eleanor Amuzegar Fund for Contemporary Iranian Art. The gift is the largest ever for Persian programs in the history of the galleries and one of the largest gifts ever received by the Smithsonian’s museums of Asian art.
