PAAIA Celebrates Passage of Concurrent Iran Resolution in House of Representatives

Washington, DC – The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA), a non-profit, non-partisan organization that serves the interests of Iranian Americans and represents the community before U.S. policymakers and the American public, today celebrates the passage of the Concurrent Iran Resolution in support of the Iranian people by the U.S. House of Representatives! 

Introduced by Representatives Claudia Tenney (R-NY), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), and Michael McCaul (R-TX), the bipartisan Concurrent Iran Resolution commends the bravery, courage, and resolve of the women and men of Iran who have exercised their right to protest. Additionally, it condemns both the death of Mahsa Amini as well as the violent suppression by Iranian authorities against peaceful demonstrators. Finally, it urges the Biden Administration to prioritize efforts to expand internet freedom in Iran and enhance human rights sanctions against Iranian regime leaders.  

The Iranian regime’s gross human rights violations are clear. In response to the growing Woman, Life, Freedom uprising, regime forces have violently repressed free speech, injured and even executed protesters, and repeatedly blocked access to communications services. 

The Concurrent Iran Resolution is an important step in the multi-pronged approach PAAIA is taking to work on bipartisan legislation that commits lawmakers to support the Iranian people’s aspirations for human rights and democracy and provides important policy recommendations for the Biden Administration. 

PAAIA worked to garner significant bipartisan support for the resolution with our allies in Congress. We now urge the Senate to swiftly pass the resolution in that chamber.
