PAAIA Welcomes Amir Omar to Washington D.C.

October 22, 2009, Washington, D.C. – Last night PAAIA members and friends hosted a happy hour reception with special guest Amir Omar (Council Member-Richardson, Texas) at Lima Restaurant and Lounge.

Omar currently serves as Council Member for the City of Richardson.  He was elected to the city council in 2009 and is the first American of Iranian descent to serve in public office in the Dallas/Forth Worth area. His successes in Richardson will likely have far reaching implications for the Iranian American community throughout the United States.

Located just ten miles outside downtown Dallas, the City of Richardson is part of the telecom corridor of Texas. The City was ranked as the 18th best place to live in the United States in the August 2008 issue of Money magazine.

The reception presented an opportunity for Iranian Americans in the Washington, D.C. area to meet with and learn about Omar’s historic election as well as network and share their ideas with PAAIA’s staff and executive team.

Omar is in Washington, D.C. to run in the U.S. Marine Corps Marathon to benefit the Methodist Richardson Medical Center.  He currently serves on the Methodist Richardson Medical Center Foundation Board, which has one of the most advanced cancer centers in North Texas.
