Ameli’s Campaign for L.A. Superior Court Judge Gains Momentum

April 23, 2010, Washington, D.C. – With the primaries right around the corner on June 8th, the race for L.A. Superior Court Judge is heating up. Of the eight candidates looking to replace current Judge Emily Stevens, Mark Ameli would like to make history by becoming the first ever Iranian American elected to the position. Ameli’s campaign has been gaining momentum with the recent endorsements of Alex Ricciardulli, Judge of the Superior Court, West Hollywood/Beverly Hills Democratic Club, and John Noguez, the Mayor of Huntington Park. Furthermore, he is very proud to have fought hard and received endorsements from both the Mexican American Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.

Ameli received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California at Berkley before attending the University of Southern California where he received his Master’s Degree in Economics. He then went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from the University of West Los Angeles and began practicing law in 1980.

Since 1994, Ameli has served as a judge pro tem in the Los Angeles Superior Court.  He has also been appointed by the Superior Court of the State of California as an arbitrator and mediator in the Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Program.  In 2005 his law firm started a mediation division under the name of Diversified Dispute Resolution. Ameli is also the founding member and past president of Iranian American Lawyers Association and has served as the chairperson of the Iranian American Sheriff’s Advisory Council.

According to Ameli, “I believe that my long and dedicated service as a litigator, an arbitrator and a mediator, combined with my many years of community service, make me qualified to become the next Judge of the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles.”

Ameli’s campaign was endorsed and supported by the Iranian American Political Action Committee, the connected PAC of PAAIA, in January of 2010. PAAIA would like to encourage all Iranian Americans, especially those in Los Angeles, to support Ameli’s campaign!
