Reflections, Post-Election: A message from PAAIA to the Iranian American Community
This election was undoubtedly one of the most contentious in modern American history. As proud and patriotic Iranian Americans, we fully support the American democratic process, yet the disturbing truth is that never-before has a presidential campaign been more centered around messages of hatred toward others, especially those of different races, ethnicities and religions.
The unanticipated result of this election shows the deep divides within our country.
Iranian Americans face a very real and material risk of legalized discrimination. Over the course of the next four years, we may not only be challenged by threats to our civil rights, but also by the potential dismantling of the Iran nuclear agreement and an unforeseeable future in U.S. – Iran relations. We can overcome such adversity together and work to safeguard the collective voice and influence of Iranian Americans.
While an unpredictable path lies ahead, of this we are certain: Our community and allies must unite around the common purpose of preserving our American values and civil rights. PAAIA remains resolved in our efforts to protect and advance the interests of the Iranian American community, and with your support, we are confident we will be successful.
