Washington, D.C. – The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA), a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian organization that represents the interests of the Iranian American community, today released the following statement to congratulate Iranian American and current Expedia Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi on being named the next CEO of Uber:
“PAAIA congratulates Dara Khosrowshahi on being selected to serve as the next chief executive officer of Uber. Mr. Khosrowshahi’s story embodies that of the American dream. An Iranian immigrant whose family came to the United States in 1979, Mr. Khosrowshahi later received his degree from Brown University in 1987 before becoming the president and CEO of Expedia in 2005. He is among a growing list of Iranian American business leaders who serve many major US companies, including many in the Fortune 500. During his time as CEO of Expedia, he used his position to advocate for a “nation of immigrants,” stressing the benefits of a diverse employee base. PAAIA strongly supports Uber in its decision to name Mr. Khosrowshahi as the company’s next CEO, and we applaud Mr. Khosrowshahi on his successful career as an American business executive. His story is America’s story.”
