Leading an ICU Unit, Battling the Crisis on the Frontlines

Dr. Milad Pooran is the head of the Intensive Care Unit at the University of Maryland hospital in Laurel, MD. As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, he and his colleagues have had to work vigorously to staff up hospitals within the UMD medical system in order to have adequate personnel resources to treat patients afflicted with the virus. His team has also had to combat difficulties in keeping up supply of necessary medical equipment such as filters for their ventilators.

Going forward, his team is planning out how to battle the crisis over the next several months, including planning for scenarios such as the virus continuing to be a problem through the future Winter 2020 holiday season. “We’re planning for the worst, and hoping for the best.” Dr. Pooran says.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
