Vote in PAAIA’s First Elections
In December of this year, PAAIA’s members will get the chance to vote in the first ever elections for the organization’s Board of Directors. The Board of Directors serves as PAAIA’s main governing body, overseeing its affairs and directing its policies.
According to PAAIA’s bylaws, the Board is elected by the general membership for a two-year term. The current Interim Board of PAAIA was elected by the organization’s trustees – individual donors who have made large three-year commitments – prior to PAAIA’s launch. The mandate of the Interim Board was to serve until the end of 2008 to help launch the organization.
The new Board of PAAIA, to take office in January 2009, will be composed of two categories: half of the Board Members will come from those who are trustees and the other half from amongst nominees who are general members. PAAIA’s membership at large (including trustees and other major donors) will get a chance to vote for both categories.
In order to take advantage of the opportunity to vote for PAAIA’s Board, we encourage you to become a member today. Your vote is your voice in determining the future of PAAIA and ensuring its longevity and success. To be eligible to vote, your membership application must be received by the PAAIA office by the end of November. You can also become a member online though our secure website.
The biggest lesson from the 2008 U.S. Presidential Elections has been that there is power in numbers and there is strength in grassroots organizing. Please join us in creating a grassroots organization to unite our community, portray an accurate image of Iranian Americans as one of the most successful communities in the U.S., and to create a strong and influential voice for our community so that we can impact domestic issues and policies that are important to us.
