WASHINGTON, DC –Members of Congress have introduced legislation opposing President Trump’s discriminatory Executive Order restricting travel from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran.
While the ban has been temporarily suspended and is under judicial review, Members of Congress have an important role to play in shaping policy and public opinion on this matter.
Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) introduced H.R. 724, also known as the “Statute of Liberty Values Act” (SOLVe), which states the Executive Order will have no effect or force of law and no funds shall be used to implement the Order.
- Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) sponsored 248 which defunds and blocks implementation of the Executive Order.
- Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) sponsored 240 which nullifies the effects of the Executive Order.
- These bills have overwhelming Democratic support but have not gained any Republican backing. 188 Democrats have cosponsored the legislation in the House and 46 in the Senate. Democrats have also called for multiple investigations into President Trump’s Executive Order.
Please take a moment to thank your Members of Congress today.
Even if your Members of Congress have already cosponsored one of these bills, it is important to reinforce their position. If they are not cosponsors, educate them and ask them to stand up for American families and interests!
