PAAIA Statement on Bipartisan Amendments to Prevent Unauthorized War with Iran

Washington, DC — Today, the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) issued the following statement in support of the Udall-Kaine and Khanna-Gaetz bipartisan amendments to the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would prevent an unauthorized war with Iran:

“It is critical for Congress to assert its constitutional responsibilities before we find ourselves in another unnecessary war in the Middle East. While the U.S. should always defend its national interests, we should exhaust all possible diplomatic options before we send our American sons and daughters into war. PAAIA believes that U.S. national interests are best served by prioritizing diplomacy and supporting the democratic aspirations of the Iranian people.”

The amendments were introduced by Senators Tom Udall (D-NM) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) in the Senate and U.S. House Representatives Ro Khanna (D-CA/17th) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL/1st) in the House.
