Congressman Bilbray Cosponsors Nowruz Resolution
July 24, 2009, Washington, D.C. – Congressman Brian Bilbray (CA-50th) today announced that he is cosponsoring a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives recognizing the cultural and historical significance of Nowruz and expressing appreciation to Iranian Americans for their contributions to society.
“In recognizing the historical and cultural significance of Nowruz, I convey my appreciation for the many contributions Iranian Americans have made to American society,” said Bilbray. “I am honored to represent a vibrant and civically engaged Iranian American community and I am thankful for their contributions to California’s economy, cultural richness, and public safety.”
Introduced by Congressman Honda on March 19, 2009, House Resolution 267 has been referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Bilbray is the 40th Member of Congress to cosponsor the Nowruz Resolution. He is working with Congressman Honda to recruit additional cosponsors and to work towards the resolution’s passage by Nowruz 2010.
Bilbray represents the 50th Congressional District of California. He serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and is the Ranking Member for its Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization, and Procurement Subcommittee.
PAAIA urged the introduction of the Nowruz resolution as a part of its broader efforts to foster greater understanding of the Iranian culture and heritage as well as projecting an accurate and positive image of Iranians and the Iranian American community that truly reflects our values and achievements.
