BAIAD to Host Iranian Americans for Obama Event
September 7, 2012, San Francisco, CA – The Bay Area Iranian-American Democrats (BAIAD) will be hosting a public event in support of President Obama’s re-election efforts on Sunday, September 16th in Sunnyvale, California. Featured speakers will include U.S. Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Jimmy Panetta, an Obama surrogate and son of the U.S. Secretary of Defense.
Founded in 2004, BAIAD is the first chartered Iranian American Democratic organization in the history of the San Francisco Bay Area. BAIAD is a chartered Democratic Club and is officially recognized by the Santa Clara County Democratic Party.
The event is focused on galvanizing Iranian American Democrats and energizing them to become more active in local and national politics. “For the Iranian American community, it would be our loss not to get involved in this election in a meaningful way. Then again, in a democracy it is always your loss when you fail to participate in the political process,” said BAIAD president Mehrdad Moayedzadeh. “We are honored that Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and Jimmy Panetta have accepted our invitation to speak to our community about the importance of this election.”
The event will be held at FAZ restaurant, located at 1108 N. Mathilda Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94089 from 2:30-5:00 PM. Doors will open at 2:00 PM. This event is open to public with free admission.

As a bipartisan organization, PAAIA and its affiliated PAC, the Iranian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC), do not endorse one presidential candidate over another. Instead, PAAIA focuses on providing information concerning candidate positions on relevant issues affecting Iranian Americans and on harnessing community efforts to support candidates of their own choosing.
