Atlantic Council’s Iran Task Force Recommends Increasing US-Iran Cultural Engagement

atlantic councilJune 28, 2013, Washington, D.C. – On June 27th, the Atlantic Council’s Iran Task Force launched a new issue brief by Ramin Asgard and Barbara Slavin entitled “US-Iran Cultural Engagement: A Cost Effective Boon to US National Security,” along with a public briefing on people-to-people exchanges with Iran.

The briefing showed that while US policy toward Iran has understandably focused on the nuclear question, the history of US cultural diplomacy suggests that programs promoting the good will of the Iranian people can help moderate Iranian government policies over the long term and foster research that is of mutual benefit.

“The Iranian Americans” Wins 2013 CINE Golden Eagle Award

CINEJune 28, 2013, Washington, D.C. – “The Iranian Americans,” a documentary by Emmy® Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Goldberg, has been awarded a 2013 CINE Golden Eagle Award in the Televised Documentary & Performance Division.

Filmed around the United States – from Los Angeles to Washington, DC – “The Iranian Americans” chronicles the underreported history of a group of immigrants who find refuge, overcome adversity and ultimately create new lives in the United States.

PAAIA Brings the Noor Iranian Film Festival to the San Francisco Bay Area

June 26, 2013, Washington, D.C. – The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) is proud to announce that it is bringing the “Best of the Noor Iranian Film Festival” to San Francisco this summer. On Friday, July 19, Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21,2013, the PAAIA San Francisco chapter and the Diaspora Arts Connection will be screening past winners of the Noor Iranian Film Festival (NIFF) at Central Stage. Selected films that will be shown include “Hayedeh: Legendary Persian Diva,” “A Conversation to Remember,” and “Tamom Gol,” among many others. The event is free for PAAIA members.

Iran’s Golestan Palace Inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List

June 25, 2013, Washington, D.C. – Iran’s prestigious Golestan Palace has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, the top honor for monuments, buildings, sites or natural features “of outstanding universal value.”

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization made the decision on Sunday during the World Heritage Committee’s 37th annual session held in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh.
