What is the PAAIA OGHAB?

The PAAIA Opportunities for Growth, Higher Achievement, and Betterment (OGHAB) represents one of PAAIA’s main goals – to invest in the new generation of Iranian Americans and give them the tools and support they need to succeed. PAAIA has partnered with various organizations in different fields—academia, finance, health care, IT, journalism, and others—to create the first step for young Iranian Americans of all fields to achieve their desired career and professional goals.

The program places qualified rising Iranian American college juniors or seniors as interns in various organizations, where they will learn more about their field of interest.

How is this internship program different from the other internship programs PAAIA has?

PAAIA does offer two different internship programs in addition to OGHAB.

The first is the Capitol Hill Internship Program. CHIP has been greatly successful since it first launched in the summer of 2012. Selected CHIP interns are placed with a Congressional office on Capitol Hill, offered a stipend, and given networking opportunities with Iranian American staff on Capitol Hill, the Administration, and non-governmental organizations throughout Washington, D.C. To learn more about CHIP, click here.

PAAIA also offers internships to work directly in the PAAIA office. This is an opportunity for interns to learn more about the Iranian American community and what PAAIA does. To learn more about interning at PAAIA, click here.

The PAAIA OGHAB is different from the above two in that it encompasses a wide variety of fields. Interns of this program will be placed in specific organizations around the country depending on their career interests, geographic location, and professional goals. While CHIP and PAAIA interns of all ages are welcome, PAAIA OGHAB is only open to rising college juniors and seniors.

How does PAAIA select the organizations that interns are placed in?

The organizations are selected based on the intern’s field of interest and the willingness of organizations to participate in the OGHAB Program.

Who is eligible to apply to be an intern?

The OGHAB Program is open to all rising college juniors and seniors of Iranian heritage who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or legal visa holders.

Am I guaranteed a spot just by applying?

The application process is highly selective and only a select few will be chosen for these internship opportunities. While we will do our best to match the most qualified candidates with internships, we cannot guarantee a match for everyone. As a result, some applicants may not be able to participate in the program. However, we encourage you try again during the next year’s internship program.

Are PAAIA OGHAB interns guaranteed a job in the organization they are placed with?

The PAAIA OGHAB Program is simply meant to give younger Iranian Americans experience in their desired field of interest. While we do hope that this internship will lead to future career development, neither PAAIA nor the participating organizations guarantee a job for the intern.

Are PAAIA OGHAB interns paid?

PAAIA does not offer a stipend to candidates selected for OGHAB. Interns will only be paid if the organization they are matched with chooses to do so.

Are there any fees?

No. The program is free and PAAIA does not reimburse any expenses.
