PAAIA provides you with the opportunity to review each of the candidates’ positions on major issues affecting Iranian Americans, including civil liberties, immigration, and U.S.-Iran relations.
The presidential election of 2012, scheduled for Tuesday, November 6th, will be the 57th election for the President and Vice President of the United States of America. The Democratic Party has chosen President Barack Obama as its nominee, while the Republican Party has chosen Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts.
The 2012 election is very important for Iranian Americans as well as for the nation as a whole. The issues at stake–particularly immigration and the balancing of civil liberties with national security–go to the heart of how the United States defines itself as a nation, and have special significance for Iranian Americans and other immigrant groups. In President Barack Obama and former governor Mitt Romney, the United States is presented with one of the starkest candidate contrasts in recent memory.
To help guide Iranian Americans in their political engagement, PAAIA is pleased to announce the launch of its 2012 Presidential Election Guide, a compilation of the positions of the Democratic and Republican nominees, as well as third party candidates. The Presidential Guide provides you with the opportunity to review President Obama’s and former governor Romney’s positions on major issues affecting Iranian Americans. In addition, viewers can learn more about the candidates’ positions on the economy, healthcare, and other important issues.
Each section provides a link to the candidate’s website, offering users multiple opportunities to get involved, as well as a host of other resources for individuals seeking additional information on the candidates and the general election process. Whenever you contact or get involved with a campaign, be certain to identify yourself as an Iranian American so the campaign knows who we are and what issues are important to us, and takes note of our civic engagement.
PAAIA is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, independent organization that represents the domestic interests of the Iranian American community before U.S. policymakers, opinion makers and the American public at large. As a bipartisan organization, PAAIA and its affiliated PAC, the Iranian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC), do not endorse one candidate over another. Instead, PAAIA focuses on providing information concerning candidate positions on relevant issues affecting Iranian Americans and on harnessing community efforts to support candidates of their own choosing.
