San Diego Rallies in Support of Farrah Douglas for Carlsbad City Council

October 13, 2010, San Diego, CA— Nearly 40 guests gathered at a private fundraising event on September 25th in support of Farrah Douglas’ candidacy for Carlsbad City Council. The event, held at the home of Ali and Haida Mojdehi was organized by PAAIA’s San Diego chapter leaders, Maryam Famourzadeh and Haida Mojdehi. The evening provided an opportunity for the guests to meet with Farrah and learn about her bid to become the first Iranian American elected to public office in San Diego County as well as the only woman running for City Council in the City of Carlsbad.
Farrah, her husband Rick and their son Kevin moved to the U.S. in 1979, shortly after the Islamic Revolution in Iran. In introducing the candidate, Haida Mojdehi noted that Farrah has been a strong business and community leader for the past 20 years, has endorsements from the Building Industry Association, The North San Diego County Association of Realtors as well as various congressmen and assembly members; however, it is Farrah’s perseverance and courage that have resonated with her supporters, as this is her second bid for the position.
Farrah has served in various positions on the Board of Directors and the Executive Board at Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce since 1991. She was the Chamber’s Chair in 2000, the only female immigrant business owner to serve in such a position. In 2009, she received the San Diego Business Journal’s “Women who Mean Business” award.
Farrah and her husband have been the owners of CEO printing company in Carlsbad for the past 21 years. She has served on the Carlsbad Planning Commission since 2006 and was elected as the Chair in 2010. She is also the president of Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Foundation Board, raising funds to help young disadvantaged high-school and college bound students and marines.
In her speech, Farrah thanked IAPAC, the connected political action committee of PAAIA, for supporting her candidacy and added that she is grateful for the support her campaign is receiving from the Iranian American community in the San Diego area and beyond.
