Some 2,500 years ago one man’s vision changed world history. Cyrus the Great, the founder of the Persian Empire, one the world’s first great empires, used a clay cylinder to inscribe the first declartion of human rights, now known as the Cyrus Cylinder. On March 9, 2013, this iconic object of Persian and world history begins its first ever tour of the United States. Beginning in Washington DC, the Cylinder will travel to Houston, New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The Tour is being sponsored by the British Museum, in partnership with IHF America and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution. Through the generous support of Tina & Hamid Moghadam and Bita Daryabari & Dr. Reza Malek, PAAIA is honored to be a co-sponsor of the exhibition in San Francisco. We are also proud that numerous PAAIA board members are among the sponsors of the exhibition in Houston and New York City. We encourage you to visit the exhibit at one of its tour locations and to help us share Cyrus the Great’s vision of tolerance, peace, and equality.
