Hamed Haddadi Holds First Basketball Camp for Iranian Americans

September 18, 2009, Los Angeles, CA– Hamed Haddadi, who plays for the Memphis Grizzlies in the National Basketball Association, recently concluded the first ever sports camp for kids held by an Iranian American athlete.

The two day event was held at the campus of California State University, Northridge, and was intended to reach out to the Iranian American community in Los Angeles. One hundred campers, most of whom were of Iranian descent, participated in the event.  Haddadi personally sponsored twenty campers from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, with all the proceeds from the camp going to the Hamed Haddadi Javanan Foundation.

Special guests included Ron Artest of the Los Angeles Lakers and Yara Shahidi from the movie “Imagine That”. Twently volunteers served as camp counselors, including Behdad Sami, the first Iranian to play professional basketball in the United States and Tehran Ghasri, Iranian American radio and TV personality.
